Quillwork: free WordPress FSE theme for design studios

Quillwork takes its name from quill-cut letterforms, the precision craft of rendering type with a cutting edge rather than a drawing hand. Every detail deliberate. Every space considered. Most WordPress themes built for creative agencies are template farms: hero with background video, card grid of case studies, a contact form with too many fields. Quillwork is structured around how a boutique studio actually presents work: a focused homepage that leads with conviction, a services architecture built around method rather than deliverables, and a case study template that handles the full editorial weight of a proper process story.

This is a Full Site Editing theme built entirely on the WordPress block editor and Site Editor. There are no shortcodes, no page builder, no premium plugin dependencies. The patterns are built with native blocks. If you know how to use the WordPress editor, you know how to customize Quillwork, and if you need to hand it off to a client’s content team, they can manage it without a support contract.

Quillwork ships with Forest and Obsidian colour variants alongside the default palette. Forest shifts to a deep green-and-cream combination for studios with an environmental or craft focus. Obsidian goes dark for brand studios working in luxury or technology. All three variants share the same layout architecture, switching palette does not break the structure.

Quillwork is free and open source under the GPLv2 license, and it now lives in the official WordPress theme directory.
