video SEO

Video SEO is optimizing a video and the page around it so it surfaces in search, whether that's Google's video results, the Videos tab, or YouTube's own search and recommendations. The key pieces are a clear, descriptive title; supporting text on the page (at least 150 to 300 words) that gives search engines context the video alone can't; VideoObject schema declaring duration, thumbnail, and upload date; an inviting custom thumbnail; and a transcript or captions that turn the spoken content into readable text. YouTube-hosted videos start with an edge because YouTube is itself a huge search engine, while self-hosted videos with correct schema can still earn rich results in Google but won't get YouTube's built-in distribution.
