Napanee has one very large employer and a main street full of small ones. Those two economies search for completely different things, and most local websites are written for only one of them.
Work is done remotely, and after launch monthly care covers the updates, backups and monitoring if you want it.

If your Napanee business runs on word of mouth and a site somebody built a while ago, this is for you. So is the newer venture that wants the first one done properly. Whether you call it web design, web development or just getting the website sorted, here is how I work.
Map of Napanee with the surrounding communities marked: Napanee, Selby, Morven, Deseronto, Newburgh, and Camden East. Christopher Ross builds and supports websites for businesses here, working remotely.
What makes Napanee a particular market to be found in
Goodyear Canada is the largest employer in town, with close to a thousand people making tires that ship worldwide. In a community this size that one fact shapes a lot: shift patterns decide when people shop, a steady industrial payroll supports the main street, and a good share of the local business base exists to serve either the plant or the people who work in it.
The other thing worth knowing is the 401. Napanee sits on it, roughly half an hour west of Kingston and half an hour east of Belleville, which means your customers can very easily be somebody else’s customers instead. That is the real competition here, and it is why a page that only ever says Napanee leaves work on the table.
Working with someone who is not down the road
I work from Fort Erie, and I would rather say so on the first screen than have you find it out later. The build is done remotely, which for a website is the better arrangement anyway: you pay for the work instead of the driving, and the site goes up on a private staging link while it is being built, so you are reacting to real pages rather than approving a picture of one.
Two markets in one town
- Main street retail, trades and services. Your customer is local, often in a hurry, and usually on a phone. The website settles the practical questions before anybody rings: hours that are actually right, whether you take walk-ins, and how far out of town you will travel. That last sentence is the one almost nobody writes down, and it is worth more than any amount of design.
- Businesses selling into industry. Suppliers, contractors and professional services working with the plant and with employers around it. That buyer is comparing you against firms in Kingston and Belleville, and they are reading for competence rather than charm. Case studies, real capability, plain specifications and a phone number that gets answered do more here than photography does.
Where a Napanee business gets known
No arrangement, no referral fee, nothing in it for me. These are simply where a business here gets found and gets known locally, and being listed and active in them does more for a small business than most of what gets sold as marketing. Talk to them before you talk to me.
- Napanee and District Chamber of Commerce (opens in a new tab). About 25 years of promoting local entrepreneurship, with the networking and the cost-saving programs that come with membership.
- Town of Greater Napanee, economic development (opens in a new tab). The municipal starting point, including the business improvement area and what support exists.
What to ask before you hire anybody, me included
Ask who owns it when the work is done. The honest answer is you: the domain, the hosting, the content, all in your name. You want the site to keep working whatever happens between you and whoever built it.
Ask whether another developer could pick it up, and ask what happens after launch. Plugins update, browsers change, and security matters. You do not have to hire locally to get straight answers to any of this, and you should ask it of whoever you choose.
Common questions
How much does a website cost in Napanee?
Most local builds start at $2,500 CAD. It is a fixed price agreed against a written scope before the work begins, so the number does not move once you have said yes to it. What changes the figure is how many pages you need and how much of the writing and photography you already have. You get a real number after a twenty-minute call.
Should my site target Napanee or the wider area?
Both, and the order matters. Say clearly where you are, then say just as clearly which communities you serve and how far you travel. Sitting on the 401 between two larger cities cuts both ways, and the businesses that say plainly how far they will go are the ones that get the call from outside town.
