Generative AI
AI that produces new text, images, or audio rather than only sorting and scoring things that already exist.
Generative AI is software that produces new material rather than only sorting or scoring what already exists. Give it a request and it will write a paragraph, draft an image, or suggest a melody that did not exist a moment earlier. Older systems mostly classified things: is this email spam, is this photo a cat. Generative systems compose instead. That difference matters at work because the output always arrives looking finished, whether or not it is any good, so the judgement about quality has to come from you rather than from the tool.
