Cognitive load

Cognitive load is the amount of mental effort someone needs to take in and use your content. In training, load that runs too high directly lowers how much people remember and how many finish. The lever isn’t how much information you include; it’s how you structure and pace it so the brain can keep up. A concrete example: a single slide that introduces a new term, shows a diagram of how it fits the bigger system, and asks a question about it, all at once. Each piece is fine on its own, but stacked together they compete for the same limited working memory, and most learners lose one of the three. The fix is sequencing, not simplifying: introduce the term, let it settle, then bring in the diagram, then ask the question, so no two new demands land in the same moment.
