Email Subscriptions have come to WordPress blogs
This week has been a banner release week for the team at WordPress.com, first they added drag and drop file uploads to WordPress.com and now today I updated JetPack (a free plugin by WordPress.com) to find they’d added some powerful, cool new features to the WordPress.org tool.
Add easy email subscriptions to your WordPress blog
What caught my attention as soon as the update was complete was the new email subscription widget which will allow users to be updated via email when posts and comments change on my website.
Permission based marketing such as email subscriptions to your blog are a core indicator of how well your website is doing because unlike click throughs and sales, email subscriptions are from people who have chosen to have you market to them. Much like Facebook fans and Twitter followers, these are the committed members of your community who are most likely to share and repost your blog articles.
How do you add email subscriptions to your WordPress blog?
If you haven’t already done so, open up your WordPress administration panel (located at yourdomain/wp-admin/) and click on Plugins > Add New. Search for and install JetPack, once activated you’re ready to go to the next step.
Next, navigate to Appearance > Widgets and look for Blog Subscriptions (JetPack). Once you’ve found it, simply drag it to the appropriate sidebar on the right hand side of the screen and set it up. You’re all done!
