This morning I woke up to find the elves at WordPress command have added two new and brutally cool features to WordPress.com, we can assume these are part of the upcoming WordPress.org self-hosted download as well.
Drag and Drop File Uploads in WordPress
How cool it this? When you want to upload a file to WordPress, the old school dialog for selecting and uploading a file, but now there’s a simple drag and drop interface for moving files straight from your computer to WordPress.
It’s as easy as copying a file from one folder to the other.
New Fly Out Menus in WordPress.com
Improving the WordPress interface is an ongoing process and the new updates to the menu system are sure to have critics as well as supporters, I fall firmly under the support column for this new menu change, it moves the menus to the right of titles instead of appearing under the main heading.

WordPress 3.3 is scheduled for release in about a month, what do you think of the new changes?
Drag and Drop is going to be amazing. I always felt like the current process was a bit clunky and old school.
Me too Scott! It’s great to see the work the Core team is putting into now only making the platform stable but also improving the user tools.
I hate uploading images and picking the right size, etc – dragging an image right into the post would be awesome, I guess thanks to HTML5
HTML5 is changing how we look at almost all aspects of the web. The coolest thing is, I think we’re just at the very beginning and can’t wait to see what’s around the corner.
Nice! My clients will think I’m a hero.
+1! There’s nothing better than watching a client with limited technical expertise get the most out of WordPress through features like this.
