Marketing Techniques in a New World
I love infographics, a trend that really started in the past couple years. Simply put, the graphics communicate complex pieces of information in images. Which is exactly what mocoNews did with this great piece that diagnoses the Trends In Mobile Marketing. It’s a terrific graphical piece in and of itself, but also acts a strong reminder that marketing, as we know it, has changed over the past few years. Today, appealing to cell phone and mobile device users is a unique marketing opportunity in it’s own right.
Jobs.com has a piece about the importance of marketing companies keeping up with trends if they want to find success. It came up in my RSS feed this morning and I ignored it for a good part of the day because I thought the concept was self evident, but then I began considering how few ad agencies I work with. Perhaps they’re still focused on print, or simply lack an understanding of modern web trends (Marketing Dinosaurs), or my work simply keeps me busy elsewhere. In the end, the article was a great read and well worth the time.
Internationally, Facebook has named a local marketing partner for Bangkok and in one of the more unusual articles I read today, Lack of proper marketing hits litchi traders. Apparently, poor marketing crosses all walks of life. I can see this though, because I drink litchi soda from our local grocery store but have no clue what it is, actually. In our global marketplace, it would be in their best interest for litchi makers to make me love their product.
Perhaps they should take a lesson from the banana business?
