One common question I get asked about using social media for business is how to divide the labour, and which people are best to handle social marketing but I think these business owners are missing the point …
Everybody in a company is part of your social media solution.
When it comes to a modern company, there’s no reason to limit your social media to a single person of even a single team. Instead, take the time to follow these simple rules to ensure you have a strong social contribution from the entire company:
Train your staff
Each member of your team has a skill that is beneficial to your customer base. Train them to help your customers, supporters, and suppliers find what they’re looking for quickly. From the president to the custodian, ensure that everybody in the company is equipped with the basic knowledge to help a wayward Twitter follower solve the basic problems.
Reward positive social media
Build better social media relationships by encouraging your staff to do a great job. If a customer relationship was saved through social media, take the time to highlight the benefits to both your company and the customer.
Learn from your mistakes
As I’ve said before, people don’t turn to social media to solve problems lightly. So if somebody has taken the time to query you via Twitter, Facebook, or any other form of social media take the time to learn from their question to ensure your customers don’t have a similar problem in the future.
